In the Darkness,
Anarchy Awakens
When a massive solar flare wiped out all modern technology across the globe, the small town of Abney, Texas, was thrown into chaos. Shelby Sparks and her teenage son, Carter, have found refuge, but Shelby knows she can’t simply remain hidden. Carter is a type 1 diabetic in need of insulin—and Shelby will risk her life traveling to Austin to make sure he gets it.
Shelby’s best friend and high school sweetheart, Max Berkman, won’t even consider letting her make the perilous journey alone. Together, they manage to reach the capital—only to discover that while things are desperate in Abney, Austin has turned into an urban nightmare on the brink of anarchy.
Shelby and Max’s search for medical supplies will lead them into terrifying territory, where the only thing more uncertain than finding what they need is the hope of making it out of the city alive.

In this second book in an eerily plausible, action-packed dystopian series, survival will be threatened and faith will be put to the ultimate test as a raging storm engulfs America.

‘Riveting’ is a highly over-used adjective in book reviews…except when it comes to a novel like this second one in Vannetta Chapman’s The Remnant series. Couldn’t put it down!
Four close friends face danger in a world gone mad as they search for insulin for a teenage son. Against all odds, they finally procure a supply, only to face unexpected loss and heartache. But perseverance and sacrificial love are two things they haven’t run out of in this post-flare world—will that be enough to survive?
This is a tremendous love story: the love of a mother for her child, the love of friends for each other, and the love of people for their community. Faith and loyalty are tested as everything that seemed “normal” before a solar flare knocked out technology is suddenly history. Not my usual genre, but CAN’T WAIT for the third and final book of this fascinating series.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if some cosmic activity, such as a solar flare, were to knock out all power, all technology? You can’t plug in your microwave or start your car or make a phone call.
Vanetta Chapman wondered all those things and has written an amazing book, Raging Storm.
In small town Texas, it happened, a solar flare and no one expected this…the total chaos, friends turning on friends, complete ransacking of grocery stores, panic…but yet, there remains those who would still share what they have with those who do not. But what if your child is an insulin-dependent diabetic?
Raging Storm is a stunning novel of the speculative genre. Well-worth the read. You won’t be able to put it down, I promise.
PS. If you haven’t read the first in the series, read Deep Shadows!

This gripping dystopian series is set in Texas just after a massive solar flare has hit. This is a fast paced story about Shelby’s journey to the capitol in search of the much needed medication for her son. This is a story that stayed with me even after closing the last page.
I am not a person who really likes dystopian books, but I must admit I am hooked on this series. For me the characters are so easy to relate to. I loved how Shelby kept her faith in God during all the trials she encounters.
This is a wonderful book with a plot that will quickly pull the reader in. I will warn you that you need to be prepared to read this book in one setting because when you open it up you won’t want to put it down. This book brings elements of mystery, suspense, love, forgiveness, and faith. I would recommend it to anyone.

This is one of my most anticipated reads of the year….I knew it would be GOOD, but it was BETTER than I thought!!! I was truly nervous what more could go wrong in Raging Storm after experiencing Deep Shadows, but even there is LOTS of intensity to this story, these characters TRULY amazed me in their resilience, faith, and loyalty. Maybe that’s the key to any apocalyptic story, good writing included, but also characters that make it worthwhile NO MATTER how desperate the situation gets.
I would normally recommend reading the first book before the sequel, but the author brilliantly formats the story so that it can be read as a stand alone.
As intense as the story is, there is also friendship, strength, hope and humor…Chapman style! Just because it’s the end of the world and things can get gloomy, doesn’t mean all is lost.
Hated the scene with Danny and his men, LOVED the scene where the four friends help Bill at the end, didn’t cry until 40 pages in and then cried again at the end, it was just touching stuff. Didn’t consider anything scary, just kept bracing myself for the main characters to hang in there. A few people get shot or shot at, but despite the hardship in Raging Storm, I really considered Deep Shadows to have more violence. I was nervous about reading this book, but so glad I went for it. The story REALLY and TRULY blessed me despite the intensity and how much could possibly go wrong so fast! On the other hand, there are also miracles and examples of God’s love and provision throughout. Oh, and poor Carter! Loved it and can’t wait for Book 3!!!

Raging Storm kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me turning the pages.
